Yesterday's New York Times reports that the Israeli Housing Ministry (gotta know hebrew for this link) plans to build another 600 houses in disputed areas in the West Bank, outside of Jerusalem. This government is actively pursuing Manifest Destiny, its religious belief that Israeli Jews were given the land of ancient Israel by God. The problem is that Israel was supposed to be a Jewish State, but the self destructive Likud Party, the political party of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, seems dead set on making Israel an Arab state within one generation. Will Israel be the decent, God-fearing Liberal state it claims to be? Or will Israel serve the selfish interests of a radical religious minority? The New York Times explains:

The Housing Ministry placed an advertisement seeking bids to build the homes one day after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's government took another step that American officials said the administration opposed: approval of the construction of barriers deep inside the West Bank to guard Jewish settlements.
I am no expert on this matter, but the facts on the ground, the population trends, and the political reality that hope for a Palestinian state is dimming are all factors that make the Neoconservative agenda in Israel devastating for future generations of Jews, unless the Israeli Jews want to enforce the future status of Israel as a Jewish state by subjecting Palestinian Arabs either to second class citizenship or genocide.

If the Israeli Government continues to act on behalf of the Manifest Destiny settlers, therefore in defiance of a two-state solution, we may see, like Thomas L. Friedman contends, the Palestinians decide that the best way to secure the best livelihood for themselves and their children would be to demand a one state solution in which Palestinian Arabs would opt for full citizenship and suffrage in Israel.

According to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Israeli citizens (INCLUDING ARABS) will be outnumbered by Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza by 2041, if the current population trends hold.

In other words, when I am barely old enough to have young grandchildren, and if the Zionists have their way and reclaim all of Biblical Israel for the Jews, it will not actually be Israel for the Jews, but Israel for the (formerly Palestinian) Arabs. The Palestinian population is projected to be 9,636,405 people in 2041, whereas the Israeli (JEW AND ARAB AND NEITHER) population is projected to be 9,619,603, this projection is based on a medium variant curve projection.

I'm not sure, but I also think that there are two more important trends within Israel's citizenry that exasperate the trends I'm talking about, I think that Jews represent about 80% of Israel's population, which is down from proportion of the population Jews represented in the past. I also believe that the Israeli Arab population is also growing much faster than the Israeli Jewish population.

If my wavering intuition is correct (somebody please help a brotha out this) then the Jewish population in Israel will be outnumbered by their Arab cousins years before 2041. Let me just leave you with the words of somebody who said it better:

QALQILYA, West Bank -- If there is one iron law that has shaped the history of Arab-Israeli relations, it's the law of unintended consequences.... Today, Israel is building a fence and walls around the West Bank to deter suicide bombers. But, having looked at this wall extensively from both sides, I am ready to make a prediction: It will be the mother of all unintended consequences. Rather than create the outlines of a two-state solution, this wall will kill that idea for Palestinians, and drive them, over time, to demand instead a one-state solution -- where they and the Jews would have equal rights in one state....

If American Jews think it's hard to defend Israel today on college campuses, imagine what it will be like when their kids have to argue against the principle of one man, one vote.

This guy is killing us softly....

"So we're not going to get on--we don't fault these animals for a lack of discipline, but we get on human beings who are fat for lack of discipline and you know it and I know it. But here's the thing that struck me about this. We have alcoholics and drug addicts in our society, don't we? And what do we say about them? Well, they can't help it. Why, it's genetic. Why, they have a disease. Why, put one thimbleful of scotch in front of them and they can die.'

We totally exempt them from any control over their lives, do we not? Some athlete will spend two years snorting lines of coke. He can't help it.' You know, it's--it's just--it's not--it's--it's genetic. These people--they're predisposed to having this addictive syndrome. They--they can't help--yeah, like that line of cocaine just happened to march into the hotel, go up to the athlete's room and put itself right there in front of him on his blotter." - RUSH LIMBAUGH

"Return of the King" trailer is really good, check it out.

I know, I am not a woman, but this is not simply a woman's issue. The Republican run House of Representatives voted to ban late-term abortions in the United States today.

According to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

In 1998, 884,273 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC, representing a 2% decrease from the 900,171 legal induced abortions reported by the same 48 reporting areas for 1997....

Women undergoing an abortion were likely to be young (i.e., age <25 years), white, and unmarried....

Few abortions were provided after 15 weeks of gestation; 4% were obtained at 16--20 weeks, and 1.4% were obtained at >21 weeks.
Pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks. The main people pushing "partial-birth" abortion bans are people who are fundamentally against all abortion. Late-term abortions are abortions that occur after 24-26 weeks into pregnancy. The proportion of abortions that occur in that time period in the U.S. is less than or equal to 1.4% of all abortions obtained in this country. Why have these people flooded the zone on this issue, when this particular abortion procedure is so rare?

They need a foot in the door, late-term abortions make people queazy. If you argue that a live baby could potentially have his skull cracked by a doctor who sucks him out of a woman's womb alive, then it is easy for the rightists to argue that this procedure should be illegal in all cases; well, its easy if that's all the information you have....

So should we the people trust that the anti-"partial-birth" abortion people will rest and be happy with this victory?

We civil libertarians will see this as a defeat, but the civil authoritarians, the sex gestapo, and religious radicals see this as a step on the way to victory not as a victory unto itself.

Now that their foot is in the door of our private bedroom, they will not rest until they can rush our bed with their guns, rip off our clothes and rape us.

There are a couple of interesting trends that the government notices, not that aWol or the radical right cares or anything:

Graph of the percentage of early abortions vs. the percentage of late-term abortions

Number of abortions per 1,000 live births divided by age group

On guard!

I think that people are starting to realize exactly what Bush got us into. Granted, it hasn't grown to Vietnam proportions, but Vietnam took about 13-14 years to grow to Vietnam proportions. So, in 2016 or 2017, we're probably going to seehuge protests, social upheval and the Watts District on fire. Hopefully, it will never come to this. Hopefully, we'll soon have an administration that doesn't have their collective head up their collective ass.
I couldn't've said it better myself, which is why, I guess, Mr Cynical Pants said it.... Comments are awesome!

In the wake of his controversial statements regarding Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, Rush Limbaugh has resigned from his position on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown pregame show. ESPN has accepted the resignation.

Limbaugh issued a statement late Wednesday night in which he wrote:

"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated. I offered an opinion. This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret. I love NFL Sunday Countdown and do not want to be a distraction to the great work done by all who work on it. Therefore, I have decided to resign. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the show and wish all the best to those who make it happen."
What a fat turd.

The voice of modern American Fascism, nothing more than a two-faced flapping goose.... on OXY (Oxy is HARD-CORE XXX SHIT), the New York Daily News reports this morning:

The moralizing motormouth was turned in by his former housekeeper - who says she was Limbaugh's pill supplier for four years.

Wilma Cline, 42, says Limbaugh was hooked on the potent prescription drugs OxyContin, Lorcet and hydrocodone - and went through detox twice.
This is the testament that the good Lord reveals the truth in the end, although Limbaugh is innocent until proven guilty, even if he thinks drug users should have mandatory minimums of 10 years....

Limbaugh's idea of commentary Sunday involved an absurd attack on Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and on "the media" that have overrated him because "the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There's interest in black quarterbacks and coaches doing well." McNabb, Limbaugh said, isn't "as good as everyone says he has been."
As a New York Giants fan I proclaim that Donovan McNabb is on my team as the starting quarterback. Donovan McNabb played with a broken ankle and had a great game, A DAMN GREAT FRIGGIN GAME. Donovan McNabb is one of the best athletes in the NFL, not because he's black. People don't respect Donovan McNabb because he's a black quarterback, but because he's a good athlete who puts up the numbers.

ESPN should can racist Rush.

Between 1957 and 1964, before the Gulf of Tonkin bs and the escalation of the war, 401 American troops died (God knows how many Vietnamese). The first friggin' 7 years of the war. That is an average military death toll of 57 people a year. How many soldiers have died in Iraq so far?

*Right Wing Wacko columnist and old fugly CNN pundit Robert Novak published the name of a C.I.A. agent, Valerie Plame, when "two senior administration officials" gave him the name. Valerie Plume's husband is a dude named Joe Wilson, a former U.S. Ambassador who spoke the honest truth about Bush and his lies. Word on the street is that the "senior administration officials" gave Fat Bobby Novak the name and blew her cover to somehow get back at Joe Wilson. I told you the right wing wackos are crazy lunatics. If you didn't know, now you know...*

Instead of addressing that question the Republicans simply point to the Democrats' desire for an "Independent Council." Regardless of whether the Democrats want no council or a council orgy I want to project our comprehensive vision on how aWol should solve this problem and demonstrate leadership for once:

George "aWol" Bush should find out who the leaker is, out the leaker because Bob Novak won't, have the leaker declared an enemy combatant, and then have the leaker killed by firing squad and then chopped into individually wrapped slices and fed to the starving Iraqis!!!

This sounds like a pretty god fearing Republican solution! Except the Republicans are saying that outing the name of a C.I.A. agent is no big deal and has nothing to do with national security because Valerie Plame was not undercover. Bullshit!!! And here's somebody who tells you why better than I can (this is from the Newshour with Jim Lehrer, via The Drudge Report):

A former counter-terrorism official at the CIA and the State Department claimed Tuesday night that outted CIA agent "Valerie Plame" was under cover for three decades and was not a "CIA analyst" as columnist Bob Novak has suggested.

Larry Johnson made the charge on PBS's NEWSHOUR.

"I worked with this woman. She started training with me. She has been under cover for three decades. She is not as Bob Novak suggested a "CIA analyst." Given that, i was a CIA analyst for 4 years. I was under cover. I could not divulge to my family outside of my wife that I worked for the CIA unti I left the Intelligence Agency on Sept. 30, 1989. At that point I could admit it. The fact that she was under cover for three decades and that has been divulged is outrageous. She was put undercover for certain reasons. One, she works in an area where people she works with overseas could be compromised...

"For these journalists to argue that this is no big deal... and if I hear another Republican operative suggesting that, well, this was just an analyst. Fine. Let them go undercover. Let's put them go overseas. Let's out them and see how they like it...

"I say this as a registered Republican. I am on record giving contributions to the George Bush campaign. This is not about partisan politics. This is about a betrayal, a political smear, of an individual who had no relevance to the story. Publishing her name in that story added nothing to it because the entire intent was, correctly as Amb. Wilson noted, to intimidate, to suggest taht there was some impropriety that somehow his wife was in a decision-making position to influence his ability to go over and savage a stupid policy, an erroneous policy, and frankly what was a false policy of suggesting that there was nuclear material in Iraq that required this war. This was about a political attack. To pretend it was something else, to get into this parsing of words.

"I tell you, it sickens me to be a Republican to see this."

It hurts so much, yet it feels so good...

Here's realaudio of the interview: Former CIA Dude Larry Johnson.
