EAT THIS RICARDO! DEAN'S COMING FOR IOWA NEXT
Pollster John Zogby: “This is stunning. Dean leads 43-20 among Democrats and 35 to 11 among Independents. He hits 40 among all age groups, union and non-union voters. His lead is 57-17 among self-described progressives, 50-20 among liberals, and 34-14 among moderates. Married voters give him a 38-13 edge and singles a 45-21 point lead. He holds huge leads among all education groups, among investors and non-investors, men and women. This qualifies as juggernaut status. Can he be stopped?”

SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ANTONIN SCALIA SAYS THE CONSTITUTION IS AGAINST MAN ON MAN BUTT SEX
WASHINGTON Oct. 23 — Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia ridiculed his court's recent ruling legalizing gay sex, telling an audience of conservative activists Thursday that the ruling ignores the Constitution in favor of a modern, liberal sensibility.Told ya.
The ruling, Scalia said, "held to be a constitutional right what had been a criminal offense at the time of the founding and for nearly 200 years thereafter."
Scalia adopted a mocking tone to read from the court's June ruling that struck down state antisodomy laws in Texas and elsewhere.
SENATE GIVES ITSELF A RAISE; AMERICORPS IS BEING CUT; SENATE GIVES ITSELF A RAISE; WE ARE $500,000,000,000 IN DEBT; SENATE GIVES ITSELF A RAISE; MORE THAN 3 MILLION AMERICANS HAVE LOST WORK IN THE LAST 2 AND A HALF YEARS
For the fifth straight year, members of Congress will see a jump in their paychecks in 2004, with election-year salaries rising from the current $154,700 to about $158,000.These bums get a raise. They already have excellent health insurance coverage, so that IS NOT A COST THEY WORRY ABOUT. How the hell do these people deserve raises when they are presiding over a time with record deficits, major unemployment, and war?
THE MAJORITY OF SENATORS ARE ALREADY MILLIONAIRES! EVERY SINGLE SENATOR IS FINANCIALLY INDEPENDENT, WHY SHOULD THEY SPEND TAX MONEY TO PAY FOR THEIR FACE LIFTS AND TITTY TUCKS?!?!
The greedy pigs should've passed the child tax credit for people making less than $26,400 a year, but instead, these millionaires are giving themselves some more loot. Everybody who voted for this should be fired.
Here's a guy with integrity. Senator Russ Feingold, Democrat of Wisconsin:
As in past years, the effort to deny senators their pay raise was led by Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., who has a policy of returning to the Treasury any pay he receives that is above his salary when he began his six-year term.WHAT?!?!?! If you go by the work they've produced, most of them should be fired! Bill Frist thinks that the Senate is doing GOOD work? The Senate voted for the Iraq war. The Senate approved Bush's Budget. The Senate approved two Bush Tax cuts. The Senate has approved the Bush Agenda the entire way, and just as Bush should be fired, so should the Senators who have promoted this destruction.
"How can Congress give itself a $3,400 pay raise while nearly 9 million people are unemployed, and 2 million have been out of work for more than half a year," Feingold asked.
With the latest increase, he said, members will have received five consecutive pay hikes totaling more than $21,000.
Congressional salaries showed little movement in the 1990s, when Republicans gained majorities in Congress under a platform of curtailing overall government spending, but in recent years lawmakers have accepted their COLAs with little fanfare.
"I think that our representatives of government deserve a pay raise consistent with the work that we've produced," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist [Republican of Tennessee].
I thank the 34 Senators who voted not to give themselves a pay raise, not that any of them read this page....
NEW YORK SAYS NO TO THE PATRIOT ACT
PROTEST AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY!
THURSDAY, OCT. 23RD
12PM TO 2PM
1/9 to 116th and Broadway
On October 23rd, from 12pm to 2pm, students, residents, and activists from all over New York will converge on College Walk to speak out against the PATRIOT Act and the post-9/11 governmental policies of discrimination against Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians that have plagued this country over the last two years. In (dis)honor of the anniversary of the signing of the PATRIOT Act on October 26th, we will let the world hear our disgust at our government's actions because DISSENT IS PATRIOTIC!!
Speakers for this event include:
Udi Ofer — New York Bill of Rights Defense Campaign (NYCLU)
Monica Tarazi — American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee
Bill Perkins — New York City Councilman District 9
Margarita Lopez — New York City Councilwoman District 2

Sudhir Mahadevan — UAW Local 2110
Deepa Iyer - Adjunct Professor, Columbia University
There will also be many student activists and poets sharing their perspectives on the PATRIOT Act and its effects on us all.
While we are all affected by the effects PATRIOT Act, students have been hit particularly hard by the legislation. Whether it is special registration for international students under the SEVIS program, monitoring of university e-mails, classification of activist groups as "terrorists", or the clamp down on academic
freedoms, universities have certainly felt the restrictions of the PATRIOT Act.
In a unified voice we will all say NO to the violations of our rights under the PATRIOT ACT, say NO to PATRIOT II and other dangerous "anti-terrorism" legislation coming down the pipe, and call on the New York City Council to pass Resolution 909, affirming the City's commitment to civil rights and civil liberties for ALL of its people. We will also call for Columbia University to respect the civil rights and liberties of its international students and use its money and lobbying power in Washington to fight against the dangerous provisions of the PATRIOT Act!

BOB HERBERT: THE UNSUNG FORCE OF REASON IN THE NOT SO LIBERAL MEDIA
This is a passage from a column you should read, right now:
The latest data coming out of Chicago, which is roughly representative of conditions in other major urban areas, is depressing. The city's dropout rate is reportedly at an all-time high. And 22 percent of all Chicago residents between the ages of 16 and 24 are both out of school and out of work.An honest conservative would say that its a teen's own damn fault if he doesn't stay in school and doesn't get the grades necessary to get a scholarship to college or simply to go to college or get a job at Walmart. But the political conservative leadership will never admit their views on issues like this in public.
An incredible 45 percent of black men in Chicago aged 20 to 24 are out of work and out of school. That is not a condition that should be ignored. There are nearly 100,000 people aged 16 to 24 who are out of school and out of work in Chicago, and about 5.5 million across the U.S.
The recent increased federal involvement in the nation's public schools is having the perverse effect of driving up dropout rates as school administrators try to pump up their high-stakes test results by getting rid of struggling students.
This is the effectiveness of shifting national politics away from urban America, to the suburbs, ignoring issues in big cities that do not directly deal with law enforcement and throwing coloreds in prison. Cities, to the typical conservative, are big, dark, monstruous failures that should be cut off and gated from the outside, civilized grand suburbia that defines what America is. Cities are not America's problem to these people, cities are URBAN AMERICA'S PILE OF TRASH. Be wary of this coded, loaded term.
Remember the 1975 New York Fiscal Crisis and that Daily News headline "[President Gerald] Ford to City: Drop Dead." This is how these people feel about us, the urbanites, a matter of fact, this is how they feel about everybody who gets screwed by their preordained hierarchy. Fuck them, I say VIVA URBAN AMERICA!!!
GETTING IT TOGETHER AT THE NEW YORK TIMES--THE RIGHT WING TAX AGENDA
*A few weeks ago the people of Alabama voted down a budget that would defer the tax burden from the poor to the rich. This tax reform measure was proposed and championed by Republican Governor Bob Riley, who is a right-winger and historically anti-tax was faced with sea-deep deficits and a tax code that rapes the middle class and bends over for the rich. He chose to do the right thing and seek to fund the basic services that the state performs, he proposed a tax reform package that would more fairly spread the weight of government over everybody who benefits from government. His package would lessen the tax burden on the poorer citizens, and make the wealthy pay for more of the benefits they receive from government. This measure was overwhelmingly defeated in Alabama. Remind me not to move to Alabama.*
So now that you've got some background, here's the skinny. A "Governing Magazine" article notes what Bob Riley's reform bill would have done:
Riley’s reform and accountability package seeks to correct the tax burden inequities that Governing’s report criticizes. It raises the income tax threshold from approximately $4,600 to just under $20,000 within the next five years while lowering taxes for middle and low income families. At the same time, it requires large landowners to pay a more proportional amount of tax and also protects small family farms through farmstead and other exemptions. They tax families that make 4,600 a year? If you were to break down my tuition class by class, each of my classes is "worth" more than $4,600, how in the hell are there families with two parents and children worth only $4,600 a year. Boy.
Riley defends his plan:
"I’m certainly honored to receive this award, but, in all honesty, I’m just doing what I feel is in the best interests of the citizens of Alabama," Riley said. "We have an opportunity on September 9th to create a world-class education system, provide college scholarships to deserving students, make necessary investments our state has refused to make for decades, implement sweeping accountability measures and, at the same time, remove an unfair tax burden from our fellow citizens."Today's New York Times editorial observer, Adam Cohen, knows what some good lib'rul common sense will tell anybody, citizens cannot have police, fire departments, clean water, clean air, public schools, parks, hospitals, public roads, stop signs and crossing guards, public offices and public ceremonies if citizens do not pay taxes. Now that you get the point, somebody makes it better:
MONTGOMERY, Ala.Right on motherfucker Adam Cohen!
The budget ax is swinging in Alabama, and the carnage is piling up....
The cuts are reaching down to core government functions. The court system is laying off 500 of 1,600 workers [ALMOST A-FUCKING THIRD!!!], from clerk's office employees to probation officers. The health department is losing investigators who track tuberculosis, and sharply reducing restaurant inspections.
Alabama's huge budget gap is a result of the voters' rejection, nearly six weeks ago, of Gov. Bob Riley's tax reform plan, which would have generated an additional $1.2 billion, much of it from undertaxed timberland. After the vote, Governor Riley was forced to cut most state agencies by 18 percent, and other recipients of state funds by 75 percent.
There is a "starve the beast" ethic, currently fashionable among conservatives, holding that the best way to downsize government and end the social safety net is to get voters to demand lower taxes.
One message Alabama voters needed to hear more clearly was that rejecting higher taxes costs more in the long run. Saving $10,000 by denying medicine to a poor, H.I.V.-positive woman is no bargain if she ends up in a state hospital with full-blown AIDS needing $100,000 in care. Tutoring high school students in danger of failing is cheap compared with paying for welfare — or prison.
Last month, Alabama voted for fewer social services, less education, and a shoddier legal system — to become, that is, more like a third-world nation. But low as taxes are, the state will never be better at being an underdeveloped country than actual underdeveloped countries are.
We should all pay attention, because if the "starve the beast" crowd continues to prevail in Washington, as goes Alabama so may go the nation.

THE LIBERAL MEDIA IS AT IT AGAIN!
Tell me, my brilliant, scholarly friends, what the hell is wrong with this sentence? (This is an article about Dennis Kucinich's Presidential announcement speech):
[Kucinich] said he would return to bilateral trade by revoking United States participation in Nafta and the World Trade Organization, repeal the antiterrorism legislation called the USA Patriot Act, create a universal health care system, establish universal prekindergarten schooling and create a cabinet-level Department of Peace that would bring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s principles of nonviolence into government.I suppose the USA PATRIOT Act is anti-terrorism legislation to the extent that George 'aWol' Bush's 'No Child Left Behind' is a pro-education law.
Oh, that liberal media, they JUST WON'T STOP BEING SOO GODDAMN LIBERAL!!!
He said he had helped rally almost two-thirds of Congressional Democrats to vote against the Iraq war resolution, and he was the only one of the presidential candidates serving in Congress to vote against the antiterrorism act, which broadly expanded law enforcement powers after the Sept. 11 attacks. These liberal bastards won't stop it!! They want this guy Kucinich, THE MOST LIBERAL DEMOCRAT IN THE PACK, to become president, they'll do anything to make that happen. And, you know, as soon as that happens they'll be teaching our kids how to have sex in kindergarten, and not just any sex, but sex with NEGROS!!! This guy is so damn liberal that he didn't even allow the business community to come in and deregulate Cleveland's electricity when he was the Mayor of Cleveland! Everybody knows that business runs things cheaper and more efficiently than government!
Mr. Kucinich also said he had stood up against corporate interests, pointing out that as mayor, he refused to sell the city's municipal power company to a private company in 1979. Cleveland became the first American city since the Depression to go into default, with a debt of $15 million.Damn liberals, that's a LIE I tell you! A goddamn commie lie!
Deeply unpopular, Mr. Kucinich wore a bulletproof vest when he threw out the first pitch at a Cleveland Indians game. He lost his mayoral re-election campaign by a landslide but made a political resurgence some 15 years later, after local leaders said he had saved city residents hundreds of millions of dollars in bills by refusing to sell the utility.
WES CLARK'S REPUBLICAN SELF
Remember how General Wesley Clark was caught on videotape kissing the Bush and his cronies in office? Well, Clark had another snort of the President's derriere, CAUGHT ON TAPE TOO! TIME mag explains:
But another Clark speech recorded by videotape suggests that his hope wasn't snuffed out too quickly. Eight months later, even as some administration officials were making the case for war against Iraq, Clark still applauded the U.S. mission in Afghanistan as he addressed a large audience at Harding University, in Searcy, Arkansas. "I tremendously admire, and I think we all should, the great work done by our commander-in-chief, our president, George Bush," he said in the January 22, 2002 speech.Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! To me, this is further proof that the Republicans are using the so-called "centrist," soft-DLC wing to try to flood the Democratic Party. Remember, Wes Clark had some similar words for the Bushies back before 9/11.
The Clark Campaign spin was that Clark wised up AFTER SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 when Clark recognized that these people were using the terrorist attacks to advance their political agenda. All this proves to me is that Clark is just another power hungry politician who lacks the integrity to openly admit his positions. There are plenty of Republicans who are pissed about Bush's handling of economic issues and civil liberties issues, why is Clark any different? He's not, he's an imposter.
P.S.-Where the hell is Ricardo?
WOW, WILL THESE PEOPLE EVER LEARN, VIOLENCE IS NOT EQUAL TO PEACE?
Isn't it peace that these people seek? Check out this shocking poll of Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza:
RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Seventy-five percent of Palestinians support the suicide bombing at an Israeli restaurant two weeks ago in which 21 people, including four children, were killed, a Palestinian survey showed Sunday.Huh? How the hell do 75 percent support this bombing but 85 percent support ending violence? It's a connection people in that part of the world make, that I simply cannot understand, I think they call it "cognitive dissonance" or something.
The survey by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, which questioned 1,318 respondents in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, also showed that 85 percent of Palestinians support a "mutual cessation of violence by both sides."
